Through Starry Gates O'er Dreamed-of Gardens CH.1

Wooohoooooo! Fairy tale!
...I did it. I know it's a big no-no, but I really wanted to start a story with "Once upon a time."

Anyway... Remember waaaaaaaay back in late December/early January when I posted all of those pics of Beth and those little dragons? Remember that story I kept mentioning? Well... Here it is! The first chapter, anyway. I actually have two chapters (mostly) written, but the second one still needs some more editing... and, before I can finish the second chapter, I have a bit of research to do on how a little blind girl would normally be educated, cared for, and how she would spend her day.
...It's weird writing a story that requires me to research things...

Aaaaanywho, please tell me what you think! I would greatly appreciate any feedback, suggestions, and criticism! ...As well as questions. If something confuses you, don't hesitate to ask, as sometimes, I realize that even I don't know the answer, and so it forces me to view the story from an angle I would otherwise never have viewed it from.
I'm unused to writing this sort of thing, so please let me know if the mood is good, and Beth's personality and dialogue seems believable.
